We are excited to announce the Skilled Hands Organisation Craft Competition, open to all craft enthusiasts across the East Midlands. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this is your chance to showcase your creativity and craftsmanship in one or more of our six competition categories:

  • Bag Making

  • Dressmaking

  • Millinery (Hat Making)

  • Body Care Product Making

  • Jewellery Making

  • Recycling (Upcycled Crafts)

Deadline: 30th June 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.

How to Submit Your Entry:

With:

Your full name and contact details.

The competition category you are entering.

Your written description of the making process.

High-quality photos of your finished item.

The private YouTube link to your process video.

Finalists will be invited to the Red Carpet Event in September, where the winners will be announced and Awarded.

Competition Rules & Criteria:

Who can join?

Open to anyone aged 18+ residing in the East Midlands. You can enter more than one category.

Each submission must include:

  • A written description of how you made your item, including the techniques used.

  • High-quality photos of the finished piece.

  • A video documenting your process, uploaded privately to YouTube. Share the link with us via email.

Need to know:

  • No entry fee – participation is free!

  • Deadline for submissions: 30th June, 2025. Late entries will not be accepted.

  • Entries must be submitted under your actual name, not a business name.

  • Prizes are non-redeemable for cash, non-transferable, and cannot be resold or exchanged.

  • By entering, you agree to allow Skilled Hands to use your submission photos and details on our website, social media, and newsletter.

  • Judging will consider: originality, craftsmanship, creativity, technical skill, and how well the theme is interpreted.

Competition Categories & Requirements

1. Bag Making Competition

  • Create a handmade bag (e.g. clutch, backpack, crossbody, etc.).

  • Theme: Luxury, Elegance & Sustainable

  • You can use fabric, leather, cork, or any material of your choice.

  • Describe the materials and techniques used (e.g., pattern drafting, sewing, embellishment, embroidery).

  • Submit photos and a private YouTube video showing your bag-making process.

2. Dressmaking Competition

  • Design and sew a dress, suit, or fashion piece that fits the theme. (Luxury, Elegance & Sustainable)

  • You may use any technique, including draping, pattern drafting, upcycling, or embellishments.

  • Garments must be original and handmade.

  • Submit photos and a private YouTube video of your creation process and final outfit.

3. Millinery (Hat Making) Competition

  • Create a hat, fascinator, or headpiece.

  • You may use sinamay, fabric, wire, beads, or any suitable millinery material.

  • Theme: Royal Elegance,

  • Showcase techniques such as shaping, embellishment, and structural design.

  • Submit photos and a private YouTube video explaining your creation process.

4. Body Care Product Making Competition

  • Make a soap, candle, lip balm, body butter, bath salts, or bath bomb.

  • Theme: Luxury, Indulgence & Eco-Friendly Skincare.

  • Use natural or sustainable ingredients where possible.

  • Provide a step-by-step description of your process, including safety precautions.

  • Submit photos and a private YouTube video of your product-making process.

5. Jewellery Making Competition

  • Create handmade jewellery (e.g., necklace, earrings, bracelet, ring).

  • Use materials such as beads, resin, wire, polymer clay, metal, fabric, or upcycled items.

  • Theme: Timeless Elegance

  • Describe your techniques (e.g., beading, soldering, resin work, wire wrapping).

  • Submit photos and a private YouTube video showcasing your jewellery-making process.

6. Recycling (Upcycled Crafts) Competition

  • Transform waste or discarded materials into a new and creative product.

  • Your piece could be home decor, fashion accessory or jewellery

  • Examples: turning old jeans into a stylish bag, upcycling plastic into jewellery, repurposing wood into furniture.

  • Showcase your eco-friendly approach and sustainability efforts.

  • Submit photos and a private YouTube video explaining your process.
